I answered the call to preach when I was 11 years old and preached my first sermon at Choice Hills Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina. Pastor Stan Craig worked with me and was a patient, loving, & kind mentor that was a tremendous blessing to my life!!
When I was 16 I felt led to get on the radio. I went to Greer, SC, and met with Pastor Marshall Pact who owned and operated WCKI AM Radio Station. I found out what a 15-minute broadcast would cost. I prayed for a way to get the money to go on air!
A friend of mine told his mom and dad-Buck & Dorothy Fleming, who owned Poinsett Printing in Greenville of my intentions. They told me that Thomas Nelson Publishers were going to release the first Giant Print Bible that had ever been printed! They told me they would help me get the Bibles if I could raise the money.
I took a promotional ad paper on the Bibles, went to 100 friends and family members, and asked them for a $20 gift. The Lord helped me to purchase 100 of the Bibles. With the money left I was able to buy a year's worth of radio time and some recording equipment.
I came on the radio on Saturday morning just before Dr. Oliver B. Green. That was my start, and for the last 43 years, we have been on the air!! We now reach thousands of people, each week, with our radio broadcasts.
